 Connecting Kids and Culture is an initiative to enhance student learning by providing greater access to the educational programs of arts and cultural organizations in the community. This web site is a resource connecting over a thousand kindergarten through fifth grade learning objectives, in seven subject areas, from multiple central Iowa school districts, and matching them with arts and cultural experiences available in the greater Des Moines. |
| 2010 Summer Education Program - Bugs |
| Attention all Summer Child Care Providers! Looking for a fun, affordable, educational activity for your children this summer? Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to come join us for our "Bugs" craft-and-a-tour program. Children will get the chance to make their own bug and go on a "Buggy About Plants" scavenger hunt in the Dome. Cost is $3.00 per child, adults are FREE! | Scavenger Hunts |
| While visiting the Des Moines Botanical and Environmental Center, children can pick up a Scavenger Hunt pamphlet at the front desk. The pamphlet guides children to look for specific plants and their characteristics as they tour the dome. The pamphlet also contains other fun and educational activities about plants. |
| Discovery Backpacks |
| For a more in-depth learning experience at the Des Moines Botanical and Environmental Center, check out one of the backpacks at the Admissions Desk. Two backpacks are available The Wonderful World of Plants for ages 4 through 7 and Lets Learn About Plants for ages 8 through 12. Each backpack contains a Dome Discovery Activity Guide and materials for activities to help parents and their children discover fascinating facts about plants in the dome. |
